SUMMARY
The Rizeigat is the largest ethnic group in Darfur with an Arab identity. The group is divided between camel herders (Abbala) and cattle herders (Baggara). The Rizeigat group lives in Darfur, North and South Kordofan as well as in some areas of Chad. The Rizeigat Baggara mostly lives in South Darfur and are pastoralists and they herd cattle. The Rizeigat Baggara has tried to remain neutral throughout the ongoing conflict in Darfur.
There exist four main Baggara chiefs in Darfur. Beni Halba, Taisha, Habaniya and Rizeigat. Rizeigat Baggara is the most powerful among these four and also the most powerful Arab ethnic group in Darfur.
The Rizeigat Baggara has been involved in the non-state category of UCDP organised violence.
