SUMMARY

The conflict between the farming Masalit and the cattle-herding Rizeigat Baggara concerned the use of land. Clashes erupted when theRizeigat Baggara's cattle grazed on Masalit farms, several retaliatory attacks between the two tribes followed this.

The non-state conflict between the Masalit and the Rizeigat Baggara was first included in UCDP data in 2016. In November of that year, clashes between the two groups had resulted in more than 25 battle-related deaths.
