SUMMARY
The Eleme people live in the LGA (Local Government Area) of Eleme in southern Nigeria. The Elemes are closely related to the Ogonis, and the Eleme LGA even falls under what is usually described as Ogoni-land, the area which the Ogoni people are struggling to liberate. Even though the Eleme and Ogoni live in the same areas the Eleme have traditionally viewed themselves as non-Ogoni. Eleme are a Christian agriculturally based community that relies on subsistence farming. Most of them do however trade their surplus at local markets.
Eleme has been involved in the non-state category of UCDP organised violence.
