SUMMARY

Oulad Rachid is one of several nomadic pastoralist tribes known as the Batha Arabes. Originating from the Batha region of central Chad, the group was forced to leave the area after a series of droughts and the effects of the civil war in the mid-1980s. Furthermore the tribe wanted access to the grain markets surrounding Lake Chad. Today, the tribe is located in the Kanem region of western Chad and makes a living by dealing in dromedary milk.
