SUMMARY
Los Mayas was a criminal group whose presence was initially reported in 2019 in Morelos state, Mexico.
After the crackdown on the Beltrán Leyva Organization (BLO), which had its stronghold in the state, it fractured and new drug gangs appeared, one of them was Los Mayas.
Abel Maya DomÃnguez, once related to the BLO, was identified as the leader of this local criminal group.
Los Mayas had a strong presence in the northern part of the state in the borders with Mexico City and Mexico State. In this region, Los Mayas produced and distributed synthetic drugs.
This group fought for control over drug trafficking and other illicit businesses against Los Rojos and Los Colombianos, other criminal groups that also emerged after the fracture of the BLO.
Los Mayas has been involved in the non-state category of UCDP organized violence.
