SUMMARY

The Olmoro community are part of the Isoko ethnic group, which has a total population of 658 000. The Isoko people speak a language of the same name and 98% of this population follow Christianity. Their economy is built upon fishing, farming and producing palm oil. While the Isoko inhabit a wider part of the Niger Delta in Nigeria, the Olmoru community reside specifically within the Olomoru area in Delta state. They speak their own dialect of the Isoko language, called Olomoru. Their geographical location is one of the main oil producing areas in Nigeria. It hosts multiple oil pipes and wells as well as the Olomoro field. This natural resource has led to multiple confrontations between various local communities and between local communities and the oil extraction companies.
