SUMMARY

The Oleh community are part of the Isoko ethnic group, which has a total population of 658 000. The Isoko people speak a language of the same name and 98% of this population follow Christianity. Their economy is built upon fishing, farming and producing palm oil. While the Isoko inhabit a wider part of the Niger Delta in Nigeria, the Oleh community reside specifically within the Oleh area of Isoko South municipality in Delta state and rely mainly on subsistence farming. Their geographical location is one of the main oil producing areas in Nigeria. It hosts multiple oil pipes and wells, which has led to multiple confrontations between various local communities as well as between local communities and oil extraction companies.
