SUMMARY
Lashkar of Akakhel tribe is one of the many pro-government militias formed by local villagers against the militant group Lashkar-e-Islam. Like other nearby tribes, the Akakhel tribe challenged the forceful, strict interpretation of Sharia law by the fundamentalist Lashkar-e-Islam upon the region.
Parties engage each other usually in conventional warfare, including but not limited to, tactical assaults on strategic targets, targeted killing of high-ranking commanders, and ambushing enemy convoys. Although the groups mostly target each other, remotely denoted bombs caused civilian collateral damage in some cases.
The non-state conflict between Lashkar-e-Islam and Lashkar of Akakhel tribe is first included in UCDP data in 2012. In October of that year, fighting between the two groups had resulted in over 25 battle-related deaths.
