SUMMARY
The conflict between theArab Brabich and the Idnan (Touareg) tribes erupted after a minor incident in mid-August 2013; a botched attempt to rob a local store in the southern desert town of Bordj Badji Mokhtar. Fighting along tribal lines erupted as the robbery attempt resulted in clashes between the neighboring tribes. The fighting lasted less than a week; during the skirmishes 27 people were killed. The two tribes were not engaged in any violence prior to the outbreak, they had lived side by side in the region for a long time.
The non-state conflict between the Arab Brabich and Idnan (Touareg) is first included in UCDP data in 2013. A week of clashes in August resulted in more than 25 battle-related deaths.
