SUMMARY
In early June 2014, clashes erupted between IS (Islamic State) and JRTN (Army of the Men of the Naqshbandi Order, also called Naqshbandi Organization). Eight leaders of JRTN were kidnapped and killed by IS in Saleh ad-Din province, which led to clashes in Mosul and Hawijah. Some sources claimed that the clashes followed a refusal by JRTN to pledge alliance to IS. Other sources stated that the two groups were fighting over control of fuel tankers in the area.
The non-state conflict between IS and JRTN is first included in UCDP data in 2014. In June of that year, clashes between the two groups had resulted in more than 25 battle-related deaths.
