Government of Sudan - Darfur Joint Resistance Forces
Conflict Goal Issues: Darfur Joint Resistance Forces was a Sudanese rebel group that emerged as a coalition of SLM/A, SLM/A-MM, and SLMJ. The group largely held the same goal as the SLM/A and SLM/A-MM of secularism and liberalism for the people, but also included elements of decentralization. During the year of its creation, 2014, the coalition called for the decentralization of governmental power through the formation of regional civil governments which would also entail an altered political system.
Conflict Dynamics Issues: During the first year of its existence, Darfur Joint Resistance Forces called attention to military misconduct by Sudanese armed forces citing military misconduct and atrocities through bombardments of villages, mass rape of women, and other violence against civilians. The group also indicated that the specific targets of violence were intentionally targeted.
In the following year of conflict, the group reiterated its accusation of atrocities, stating that the Sudanese people “are still daily subjected to assaults, murders and rapes”. This issue is also interpreted as the main issue for the group, as it was continuously stated throughout the brief conflict and was heavily emphasized for its duration.
Conflict Resolution Issues: Whilst no issues pertaining to conflict resolution were interpreted during Darfur Joint Resistance Forces’ first year of existence, the group did state several issues during 2015. The group stated its support for a government-propositioned national dialogue and peace negotiations, although the group stated that these should be considered separate.

Comment on Name: The Darfur Joint Resistance Forces is a cooperation of three rebel groups in Darfur, SLM/A – Abdul Wahid, SLM/A – Minni Minawi, and the smaller SLMJ, first led by Ali Karbino and after his death in June 2014 by Taher Hajar.
Comment on Active: Two of the rebel groups that is part of the Darfur Joint Resistance Forces, SLM/A – Abdul Wahid and SLM/A – Minni Minawi, fought interchangeably with the Darfur Joint Resistance Forces and the SRF during 2014.
