SUMMARY

The Wurukum ethnic group are sedentary agriculturalists of Christian faith who reside in the eastern parts of Nigeria. In the history of the Wurukum there have, on several occasions, been clashes over land, as a result of differing land use by different ethnic groups. There has not been any formal leadership in connection to the violence that the Wurukum group has been involved in. There is indeed a Wukari Local Community, whose leader has acted as a spokesperson for the Wukari group, voicing their grievances in relation to the land disputes they have been involved in. The level of influence extorted by the Wukari Local Community in terms of orchestrating violence is however unclear.

The Wurukum have been involved in the non-state category of UCDP organised violence.
