SUMMARY
The Yugur people (also referred to as Bena) are an ethnic and ethno-linguistic community residing in Nigeria. The community has been involved in non-state conflicts with other ethnic communities in Nigeria.
The Yugur number around 100 000, speak the Yugur (or Bena) language and reside mainly in Adamawa State in eastern Nigeria. Some are Christian, while others adhere to traditional beliefs. Yugur, who traditionally are farmers, have clashed with Fulani herdsmen over land on several occasions.
In conflicts with other ethnic groups the Yugur appear to not deploy a formally organised militia, but instead rely on more loosely organised groupings to carry out violence against its opponents.
The Yugur people have been involved in the non-state category of UCDP organised violence.
