SUMMARY

The Supporters of independence for Eastern Ukraine were an organized rally to demand independence for Eastern Ukraine. Demands of the mostly pro-Russian rally were varied, and, amongst others, joining Russia on the model of Crimea, independence of Eastern Ukraine, federalism as well as the return of former pro-Russian president Yanukovich.

Many of the members were ethnic Russians working in industrial enterprises in the area, radical Christian-Orthodox supporters as well as members of proto-militias wishing to emulate the success of those in Eastern Ukraine.
