SUMMARY
The Agatu (also known as North Idoma and Ochekwu) are an Idoma speaking people that mainly reside in Nigeria’s Benue State. More precisely, the Agatu are mainly concentrated to the Agatu Local Government area in north western Benu State. The Agatu are traditionally farmers, growing yams, guinea corn, millet and vegetables. Many Agatu live along the Benue River, which also makes fish an important source of food. Estimates of the Agatu’s size vary between 159,000 - 168,000 people.
