SUMMARY
Beni Halba is a cattle (Baggara) herding community in South Darfur. The group is identified as Arab. The group has recognized land rights in South Darfur in form of a Dar (tribal homeland).

The Salamat is a cattle herding (Baggara) community with an Arab identity that originates from Chad. The Salamat in migration to Darfur constitute the largest community migration to Darfur. The movement of the Salamat from Chad to Sudan stretches back several centuries. The Salamat established their first Omodiya (sub-district lead by an Omda, traditional leader) in 1974 but despite repeated demands they have not been awarded a Nazir (paramount chief) which is an extensive grief for this community.
The Salamat Baggara has been involved in the non-state category of the UCDP organised violence.
