SUMMARY

Christians (CAR) is a group label encompassing all people of this faith in Central African Republic and it is often defined in relation to an adversary or out-group. The Christian community is a heterogeneous group divided along ethnic, cultural, lingual, and economic lines.

The Christian population dominates Central African Republic; they most noticeably inhabit the southern part of the country and rely mainly on farming for their livelihood. Religious violence between the Christian and Muslim communities in Central African Republic has been intrinsically connected with violence between formally-organized groups such as the anti-Balaka, which is religiously-dominated by Christian and animist members.
