SUMMARY

The FDPC, Front démocratique du peuple Centrafricain or the Democratic Front for the People of Central Africa, is based in the western parts of the Central African Republic. There are varying accounts of when the group was formed but sometime between 2004 and 2006 is the most likely. The FDPC was created by Martin Koumtamadji, also called Abdoulaye Miskine, originally from Chad and a close associate of former Central African Republic President Patassé. The group remained under his leadership even after he was imprisoned in Cameroon in 2014, he was later released.

The FDPC mainly operated in the western province of Nana-Mambéré of CAR as well as in the eastern parts of Cameroon. The group often kidnapped civilians and demanded ransom from their families. Peul herdsmen in the area, as well as truck drivers on the Main Supply Road 1 (MSR1) between Cameroon and Bangui, have been victims of deadly attacks by the FDPC. The FDPC supported the Séléka alliance initially, but the two later clashed and the FDPC distanced itself from the alliance in 2013.

The FDPC has been involved in the one-sided violence category of UCDP organised violence.
