SUMMARY
Shiites in Pakistan made up 15-20 percent of the country's population of Muslims. Being the largest minority group, they have been targeted by Sunni fundamentalists for many decades. The most influential Shia group is the Hazara people, whose members have been also targeted by more formally organized groups such as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Since 2023, Shiites have been involved in a sectarian conflict with the Sunnis.
Shiites have been involved in the non-state category of UCDP organised violence.
