SUMMARY

La Resistencia (the Resistance) has been based in Michoacán and Jalisco states on the western coast of Mexico.

The group was formed out of the remnants of the Milenio faction of the Sinaloa cartel which had been run by the Sinaloa Cartel’s number two commander, Ignacio “El Nacho” Coronel Villarreal. Allegedly cracks began to form within the Milenio Cartel, an element of the Sinaloa Cartel and when Coronel was killed in late July, 2010, the cartel ultimately split into two factions: the Jalisco Cartel New Generation and the Resistencia Cartel.

Ramiro Pozoz González, also called "El Molca" established La Resistencia after the death of Coronel, and based his cartel in Michoacán. La Resistencia allied themselves with the La Familia cartel.

La Resistencia was significantly weakened after fighting with the Jalisco Cartel New Generation in Jalisco state in 2011 and after the arrest of its leader "El Molca" in September 2012.

La Resistencia has been involved in the non-state category of UCDP violence.

No recorded fatalities for this entity.
