SUMMARY

The Christian Copts in Egypt are a loosely put together congregation of people that adhere to the Coptic sub group of the Christian faith. The group is perhaps mostly defined in relation to an adversary, or an out group. The overarching description Copts does not include all Copts in Egypt; rather it is a product of the reporting from the conflicts that include religion as markers of belonging. The group is, because of their ad hoc nature, not lead by one single person; rather, they assemble when threatened by an outside actor.

Christianity and the Coptic branch of it is the second largest religious affiliation in Egypt with 10% of Egyptians adhering to that religious affiliation.

The Copts (Egypt) have been involved in the non-state category of UCDP organised violence.

No recorded fatalities for this entity.
