SUMMARY

The Afor is an ethnic group that lives in the northern and central parts of Nigeria. They are mainly farmers, living in settlements growing, amongst other crops, rice. The fact that Afor are predominantly settled and draw their income from agriculture puts them at odds with other, nomadic and/or pastoralist ethnic groups. These conflicts, which are usually centred on the issue of land use, are common in the central and northern parts of Nigeria.

There is no one individual leader of the group; it is more a question of local leadership in the different villages and farm communities.

The Afor have been involved in the non-state category of UCDP organised violence.
