SUMMARY
The Government of Egypt has a tainted human rights record, achieved through violent suppression of democratic activists, Islamic extremist supporters, and other civilians. Hard-handed dealings with civilian protesters and dissenters by security forces and police are what have made the Egyptian government involved one-sided violence.
The Government of Egypt first became active as a one-sided actor in UCDP data in 2005, when the one-sided violence resulted in at least 25 civilian deaths. The threshold was reached in December that year when the Egyptian police attacked Sudanese refugees in Cairo.
