SUMMARY
In 2002 MLC (Mouvement pour la Libération du Congo, Movement for the Liberation of Congo) and RCD-N (Rassemblement Congolais pour la Démocratie-National, The Congolese Rally for Democracy-National) fought against RCD-ML (Rassemblement Congolais pour la Démocratie - Mouvement de Libération, The Congolese Rally for Democracy – Liberation Movement) in the north-eastern parts of the DR Congo (Zaire). During the fighting MLC and RCD-N committed widespread atrocities, killings of civilians, cannibalism, rape, looting, torture and abductions primarily in the area in and around Mambasa.
The MLC and RCD-N coalition first became active as a one-sided actor in UCDP data in 2002, when the one-sided violence resulted in at least 25 civilian deaths. The threshold was reached in October when the groups had killed civilians in Mambasa territory.
