SUMMARY
Bonde do Maluco (BDM), also known as “Tudo 3”, was a drug trafficking gang from Salvador, Bahia state. Their involvement in drug and firearms trafficking, and money laundering has affected civilians since its inception in 2015. BDM’s struggle to expand territorial control often resulted in violent clashes with rival gangs, which threatened civilians in the occupied neighborhoods.
The gang would establish a set of rules for the locals living within their territory. Any perceived disobedience would often lead to severe repercussions, ranging from threats to executions. BDM’s attacks on civilians often took place in the context of robberies in neighborhoods not fully under BDM control or as unintended casualties in targeted attacks.
Bonde do Maluco first became active as a one-sided actor in UCDP data in 2022, when the one-sided violence resulted in over 25 civilian deaths.
