SUMMARY

The Hutu alliance of Nyatura groups called CMC was formed in 2016. Nyatura groups fought to protect the Hutu population in DR Congo from attacks by other armed groups. CMC often attacked civilians perceived as supporters of other armed groups, or in retaliation of clashes with other armed groups. They mainly targeted civilians of Nande and Hunde ethnicity in the context of a communal enmity between Hunde-Hutu and Hutu-Nande groups. CMC also killed civilians after kidnapping them and during looting of villages.

CMC mainly attacked civilians in the Masisi and Rutshuru territories of the Nord Kivu province.

CMC first became active in one-sided violence on Christmas Day of 2017 when they shot dead four people and burned 144 homes in an attack on the Yobora village of the Bwito chiefdom in Rutshuru.

No recorded fatalities for this entity.
