SUMMARY
Most of the civilians killed by PYD were in the context of their war against the Islamic State (see the IS - PYD conflict) .
Some of the largest massacres reported by PYD were on 23 February 2014 when PYD looted houses and killed 43 residents in Tall Birak and on 14 September 2014 when PYD executed men and children in Tal Khalil and Al-Hajiya villages, located in Al-Hassaka governorate.
PYD first became active as a one-sided actor in UCDP data in 2013, when the one-sided violence resulted in more than 25 civilians deaths. The threshold was reached on 21 November 2013 when PYD forces executed Al-Aghbiessh Town located in Al-Hassaka city.
