SUMMARY

[Salafia Jihadia(/#actor/393) has committed one-sided attacks against Jewish targets and the Moroccan tourism industry including a Spanish restaurant. An ideological leader of [Salafia Jihadia(/#actor/393), Mohamed Fizazi, stated that “Christians and Jews should have their throats slit”, and called for the members of [Salafia Jihadia(/#actor/393) to “assassinate the impious”. The group used suicide-bombings and murdered its victims. According to researchers the aim of the one-sided attacks was to destabilize the Moroccan society and to bring about an Islamic shift in the country. According to the Moroccan government, another motive for attacking Jews was possibly that the government created circumstances in Morocco under which Jews and Muslims peacefully coexisted.

All recorded attacks took place in the Casablanca region in Morocco.

[Salafia Jihadia(/#actor/393) first became active as a one-sided actor in UCDP data in 2003, when the one-sided violence resulted in over 25 civilian deaths. The threshold was reached on 16 May that year when the group launched a series of suicide attacks in Casablanca killing 45 people.
