SUMMARY
Prior to the outbreak of conflict between the Janjaweed – Bin Kulaib faction and Janjaweed – Moro faction, they were both factions within the Janjaweed militia. The groups both lived and also took part in numerous raids together on native Darfurians, based out of the area around Geneina.
The only recorded event in this dyad took place was after one of these raids in November 2005 when the groups clashed in armed conflict. A dispute arose during a discussion on how the stolen cattle, sheep, and goats from a recent raid were to be divided. Eventually, one of the Janjaweed drew a knife and stabbed a member of the other tribe, whose compatriots immediately returned the favor and killed the first assailant as chaos ensued.
The two former allied groups separated into fierce fighting forces and began shooting at any member of the other tribe, including women and children who were also present in the same camp.
The non-state conflict between Janjaweed – Bin Kulaib faction and Janjaweed – Moro faction is first included in UCDP data in 2005. In November of that year, the two sides clashed near Geneina, resulting in over 25 battle-related deaths.
