SUMMARY
In the Hadjer-Lamis province, a long-simmering conflict over the use of a well resulted in heavy fighting between the ethnic Bulala and Kreda groups. The tension over use of resources between the two communities from Bahr-El-Gazel and Hadjer Lamis provinces reportedly dates back to the 1960s. The arid region in which the communities live makes water access a critical and scarce resource; particularly for drinking water and watering of livestock.
The non-state conflict between Bulala and Kreda is first included in UCDP data in 2025. In November of that year, a violent clash occurred in Kouka village resulting in over 25 battle-related deaths.
