SUMMARY
The conflict between EGC and La Terraza concerned territorial control over drug trafficking corridors, mainly in the department of Antioquia, in the metropolitan area of Valle de Aburrá. This area pertains Medellín, Envigado and Sabaneta, as well as the south west of this department in the Andes, Betania, Jardín and Salgar municipalities.
La Terraza was the most powerful armed faction of La Oficina, a criminal armed group lead by Pablo Escobar in the 1980s. After his death La Terraza adapted and transformed into a network of gangs which dominated the metropolitan area of Valle de Aburrá. The violence between La Terraza and the EGC can be traced back to 2024 when main leaders of La Oficina were killed in Medellín, allegedly by rival factions within the cartel or by Los Pepes.
The non-state conflict between EGC and La Terraza was first included in UCDP data in 2025.
