SUMMARY
The conflict between FARC-EMC and EMBF concerned territorial control of drug trafficking routes and illegal mining. Fighting took place mainly in the Caquetá, Guaviare, Meta, Putumayo and Amazonia regions.
Violence can be traced back to 2024 when these groups declared war on each other in the Cartagena del Chaira municipality. As these groups were once a cohesive organization of dissidents from FARC, their motive for fighting was the ideological differences regarding the peace process negotiations, the impact of extorsions, targeted killings and social control overall towards civilians and the careless exploitation of the environment through illegal mining. Clashes took place mainly in the Guaviare department, creating major humanitarian repercussions.
The non-state conflict between FARC-EMC and EMBF was first included in UCDP data in 2025.
