SUMMARY

The "Nahrawan al-Sham” campaign was a loosing battle defending against an IS offensive in Mintaqat Azaz district of northern Aleppo governorate from late August until the end of September 2014. It followed on the heels of the largely unsuccessful Northern Earthquake offensive, which had attempted to push IS out of Azaz district. Despite reinforcements from several Idlib-based groups having arrived in Aleppo to combat IS, the opposition factions were pushed out of most of Azaz district, only halting the IS advance around Azaz and Marea towns.

It was connected to the larger anti-IS fighting that began in January 2014 (see IS - Islamic Front, Mujahideen Army, SRF).
