SUMMARY
The coalition of Dawn of Freedom Brigades (at the time called Descendants of the Messengers Brigade), Euphrates Islamic Liberation Front, Islamic Front, Jabhat al-Akrad and Liwa Thuwar ar-Raqqa mainly fought IS in Ayn al-Arab and Manbij districts, northeastern Aleppo, from February 2014. The coalition consisted of groups retreating from IS in Raqqah (see IS - Islamic Front, Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, Liwa al-Jihad fi Sabeel Allah, Liwa Thuwar ar-Raqqa) and groups which already were fighting IS in the area (see IS - Islamic Front, Jabhat al-Akrad, Liwa Thuwar ar-Raqqa). The coalition was slowly pushed out of their areas of control, and had to seek refuge in the PYD-controlled sections of Ayn al-Arab/Kobane district by August, and later joined in a coalition with PYD, called Euphrates Volcano, to defend the exclave (see Euphrates Volcano - IS).
It was connected to the larger anti-IS fighting that began in January 2014 (see IS - Islamic Front, Mujahideen Army, SRF).
