SUMMARY
The Mahadi and the Rizeigat Abbala are both Arab tribes that live in the Darfur region in Sudan. The Mahadi are sedentary while the Rizeigat Abbala are pastoralist camel herders. Disputes over the ownership of land and the use of land led to clashes in South and West Darfur in 2016.
The non-state conflict between the Mahadi and the Rizeigat Abbala is first included in UCDP data in 2016. In June of that year, clashes between the two groups had resulted in more than 25 battle-related deaths.
