SUMMARY
Both the Awlad Omran and the Awlad Serur are sub-groups of the large Misseriya tribe (alternative names: Missiriya, al-Misseriya, Misiriyya, Messeria, Misseria) in West Kordofan in Sudan. The groups are both ethnic Arabs and even though the two have been involved in clashes earlier with other non-state groups, they had not targeted each other prior to 2016. In early September of that year a dispute between the two groups escalated into fighting in the Abyei district of West Kordofan, more than 40 people were killed in the clash.
The non-state conflict between the Awlad Omran clan and the Awlad Serur (Misseriya) was first included in UCDP data in 2016.
