SUMMARY
Both the Fulani and the Salamat Baggara tribes are cattle herders and lives in South Darfur in Sudan. In February 2015 clashes erupted between the two groups after that a member of the Salamat Baggara tribe attacked the house of a Fulani tribesman in the Buram district of South Darfur. This set of a number of revenge attacks between the two groups.
Cattle-rustling has become part of the general tactics in the conflict. And instances of cattle theft have been the triggering factor that set of clashes on several occasions.
The non-state conflict between Fulani and Salamat Baggara is first included in the UCDP data in 2015. Three days of fighting around the Dimsu village in Buram district between the Fulani and the Salamat Baggara resulted in the killing of 147 tribe members, the vast majority came from the Fulani.
