SUMMARY

The Misseriya and the Salamat Baggara are two Arab tribes in Darfur, Sudan. Both of the communities herd cattle even though some parts of the Misseriya also herd camels.

The non-state conflict between the Misseriya and the Salamat Baggara was first included in UCDP data in 2013. Fighting was sparked in April of that year, when a member of the Misseriya community shot a man from the Salamat Baggara group. This escalated into extraordinary fierce conflict with hundreds of battle-related deaths as a result.
