Comment on Yearly Battle Related Deaths: The violence recorded in this dyad during 1995 is concentrated to a couple of weeks in late April, early May.
Comment on Active: During a couple of weeks in late April, early May GIA and AIS fought each other; initially the conflict was centered on gaining territorial advantages vis-à-vis each other. The conflict was also concerning the more open minded approach of AIS, concerning negotiations with the Algerian government.

Comment on Yearly Battle Related Deaths: The deaths in this dyad was recorded during the last few days of December when GIA attacked AIS in response to their offer of a unilateral cease fire, and the promise of refrainng from attacking civilians.
Comment on Active: The groups clashed in the last days of 1997. During a few days of unrest 250 people lost their lives. The violence took place during the last few days of December and stemmed from an unilateral cease fire offered by AIS, in which they refrained from targeting civilians. This was considered a sell out of the Islamic struggle by GIA, who added AIS to their list of adversaries.
