2008 Dyad Archive
Comment on Active: Fighting between the Mangal and Turi tribes in 2008 mainly took the form of fierce skirmishes and gun-battles, sometimes employing heavy weaponry such as rocket launchers, mortars, missiles etc. Violence caused significant hardship for the two tribes, as vital public services, such as electricity or food supply),were substantially damaged or disrupted, and roads closed, preventing vital movement and trade. A spike of violence took place in April, when reports describe 11 days of uninterrupted fighting between 4 and 15 April 2008.
Throughout 2008, significant attempts at negotiations between the two tribes took place. In early April, a traditional tribal peace assembly, a so called Jirga, was conveyed to attempt to defuse the conflict, arriving to a ceasefire on 15 April 2008.
