Comment on Active: In 2003, clashes broke out between the Bi’idyahan and the Ismail of Makahil over control of the village Gohweyne in Shilabo District, Korahe Zone in the Somali National Regional State (SNRS) in Ethiopia. The village had been inhabited by the Makahil (Ismail) for a long time, but was claimed as ancestral land by the Bi’idyahan. Reportedly, both groups acquired arms from relatives in Somalia and attacked each other, resulting in the deaths of 280 people and the displacement of the Makahil, who fled to neighbouring Warder Zone.
