Comment on Activity: The activity in this conflict was limited to one day of rioting between youths of the two ethnic groups. The trigger of the violence was the appointment of a new Emir, a traditional political and religious leader. On the eve of the instalment Ninzam youths blocked the roads to prevent the Emir from reaching his office. The youths subsequently clashed with youths representing the Hausa ethnicity, who were supportive of the new Emir, and opposed the actions taken by the Ninzam youths. In the following riots approximately one hundred people died, and the material damage was substantial; the palace of the Emir was destroyed, along with several buildings and vehicles.
Comment on Yearly Battle Related Deaths: All deaths in this conflict this year stem from the riots that took place in connection with the instalment of a new Emir in the region.
