Comment on Activity: The fighting was confined to a week in late November. The period leading up to the clashes was characterized by inter-group tensions over control of the Am Zaafaye well; with both tribes being livestock herders the availability to fresh water is of great importance. During this period, the authorities, in repeated efforts, tried to solve the dispute, but none of the incentives succeeded in reducing the hostilities. In two clashes in late November over 70 people were killed and hundreds were injured. The unrest did not abate until government troops were deployed.
Comment on Yearly Battle Related Deaths: All deaths stem from the two events in late November.

Terminated: NO
