2007 Conflict Archive
Comment on Activity: The fighting between the Zaghawa and the Tama began at the end of January 2007. The fighting also contained an additional dimension, that of members of the two ethnic communities belonging to different Chadian rebel groups. Elements within the Tama-dominated FUC (United Front for Change) fought against elements of the RAFD (Rally of Democratic Forces), dominated in turn by Zaghawa. However, the fighting bore more hallmarks of an inter-communal conflict pitting Zaghawa against Tama. There were some clashes during the first months of the year, with a decrease in intensity following until clashes occurred again in August. The chaotic situation, with several rebels group (both Chadian and Darfurian) being present in the area, was sometimes used by the rivalling groups during the year to settle scores with the other.
