Comment on Activity: In 2005, Madobe returned to Shatigudud’s original RRA (both had been appointed to ministerial posts in the new transitional government). At that point, Habsade, who had joined the interim parliament, remained as sole leader of the RRA faction. With the leadership changes, the dimensions and rationale of the conflict in 2005 differed somewhat from previous years. Habsade accused the government of supporting Shatigudud and Madobe to oust him from Baidoa, one of two towns, along with Jowhar north of Mogadishu, where President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed wanted to relocate the transitional administration. Supporters of Shatigudud and Madobe, meanwhile, accused the dominant Hawiye clan, which controls the lawless capital, of deploying gunmen and battlewagons to support Habsade.
