Comment on Activity: The first clash between Palipehutu-FNL and the Palipehutu-FNL – LP took place on 4 September 2007 in the northern suburbs of Bujumbura. The government promised to protect Palipehutu-FNL – LP members until the 2006 agreement was implemented. As more and more Palipehutu-FNL members defected to the LP faction, the leadership of the main faction upped the pressure on the dissidents, attacking them and attempting to discourage further defections. On 13 October, Palipehutu-FNL attacked LP leaders at Hotel Albatros in central Bujumbura, killing three and seriously injuring Nestor Banzubaze (alias Banes), the commander of the group.

Terminated: NO
