2009 Conflict Archive

Comment on Activity: Fighting between the Hol Dinka and Lou Nuer occurred during August and September in 2009. The fighting between the two groups started with cattle-rustling that then resulted in a deadly circle of attacks and counter attacks. These clashes resulted in an extraordinary high causality figure in comparison to previous years. This was something that characterized the non-state conflicts that took place in South Sudan in 2009. The main reason behind the high casualty figure was that in 2009 women and children were attacked to a higher degree than usual.

Terminated: NO
