Comment on Activity: In the beginning of June, the Jie moved into Turkana territory in western Kenya to raid cattle. The Turkana, warned about their presence in the area, ambushed the Jie warriors and in the ensuing fight 40 people were killed.

It should be noted that the Turkana have been allied with the Matheniko Karimojong since the early 1970’s.

Comment on Activity: At the end of January, Jie warriors entered Turkana territory in Western Kenya to raid cattle. Although fighting in the area was never reported, out of the 60 Jie warriors that crossed the border from Uganda, only 20 returned. It should be noted that the Turkana have, since the early 1970s, been allied with the Matheniko Karimojong who provides the Turkana with information about upcoming raids.

In February fighting erupted again in Rift Valley.
