In May of that year fighting between the two groups led to more than 25 battle-related deaths.

Comment on Activity: The conflict between the Gaadsan subclan and the Ma’alin Weyne subclan began in May when a series of attacks killed 30 people and forced hundreds to flee. Due to mediation of neutral clans, the conflict calmed down, but sporadically re-erupted throughout the whole year.
Comment on Yearly Battle Related Deaths: The differences in the fatality estimates result from partially unclear sources reporting slightly different numbers of fatalities. In addition, for some events, the involvement of the two actors is only assumed, but not confirmed, which is why the fatalities incurred are only added to the “high” estimate.
