2006 Conflict Archive

Comment on Activity: A series of clashes occurred in 2006 between the Dinka Agar and the Dinka Gok, presumably due to disputes on water and pasture for their herds. Violence was relatively short-lived, taking place during a few weeks of July. By early August 2006, leaders of both ethnic groups reached a solution to the violence, further issuing an open letter to the authorities of South Sudan blaming the outbreak of violence on corrupt local officials.
